The poem written for Bill's memorial

This was the poem written by our friend, Richard "SeaJay" Cecil, for Bill. SeaJay read it at the memorial. SeaJay and his wife Willa got to see Bill, Rich and Vince fly only once, at Elk in 2008, and it left a lasting impression. For those of you who met SeaJay, you know this poem was from the heart. I thought you might like to have it.

On Monday I received a notice from the VFW that a memorial contribution in the amount of $1,000 had been made in Bill's memory by the Sonoma Wings Hang Gliding Club. I was truly stunned.

Come on up to a beautiful Scott Valley, My flying site has snappy clear skies, and a Nice crisp 5 mph West wind for launching.
It was a mere 4 deg at 6:00 AM this morning and is now about 12 deg maybe we will make the mid twenties.
This would keep one real alert for a warm thermal.

Kurt & Scot flew to the coast Saturday. Sorry no photos this post; still experimenting with my sons video camera. Flying with power available in such a light wing loaded aircraft has enabled me to experience air that is not normally available to us. As I go up and down through the boundaries of temp inversions and direction shears I can feel these changes like the changing of the surface we walk on. I read Nick Crane's article in the December issue of the HG&P mag. It's a nice article about taking a paragliding trip to Central America, Costa Rica. I am going to try and develope a new site with an East launch capability. It is straight across the Shasta Valley from Herd Peak and Whale Back.

There are some things that we keep emphasizing, like using visualization to "practice" what you'd do in a tight situation. This accident report gives you the opportunity to visualize what you would do in the same situation. Take your time reading through this report, all of it, and actively visualize yourself in the same situation, and what you'd do. Move your hands and arms to aid muscle memory. I have just received a letter from Nancy Gibson, the Mendocino Forest Supervisor. She informs me that the roads to the top of Hull and St John mountains will be repaired "next field season". Woo - hoo! I hope it's early.

Also the lock on the gate at St Helena has been replaced and the combination restored.

It was not discussed at the last meeting. Are we going to go this year? When? Thought I would bring up the subject since our holiday weekends will be filling up quickly. What are your thoughts?
