I'm going to fly St Helena. It's the best time of year, it's local, you can drive to launch, there's a big grassy field to land in, and drink
beer in, with a delightful landowner friend.
Sounds like it's going to be hot this weekend so it could be good. Leo |

Hi Leo,
I got an E-mail from my friend Steve J from Fresno. He wants to go to he Howl at Lake McClure. So that seals the deal in regards to where I am flying this weekend.. Also: I have a driver, who has a 4wd, a gas card, and Sierra Nevada beer up there, {such a deal}. I read John's post about heat, good point. I will load my camel back with H20 and ice each morning, and drink a lot of water during set-up. I know it is rare for conditions to be right for the Grade. But someday I would love to hook up with you guys and fly it. Best High Speed flying Wishes. The Big Guy in the Sky. . . |

It's going to be hot this weekend.
This is the time of year to fly St H.. Some years ago pilots got to 11k over the back of St Helena on a hot day in late May...... It would be nice to go XC. Leo |

Hi
Jon, Leo, you guys might be right. This weekend getting hot could be good, maybe? Agent orange/Scott should be down there at McClure already. He could be up at CB with KM, I am not sure. I will be there late this afternoon. I have only flown St. Helena twice, would love to do it again. I am still chomping at the bit for a Grade flight, someday? Best High Altitude Wishes. I would be interested to fly St Helena Saturday. Not a XC pilot but would go up with the group if there is room. Marcelo Luz |

Elk isn't panning out, so I'll fly St. Helena. It sure would be good if we had a driver or two.

Meet in the LZ at 10.30 - 11 am. Bring a driver if you have one, or we will have to do a retrieve.
Leo Oh, and bring beer too, - there won't be a keg in the LZ this weekend! |

Guys,
Are people flying Sunday as well? What is the launch like these days at St. Helena? It has been years since I have flown there and it was the old launch with the long walk. I have other options to get airborne (like motor out of some field and shut off once over the mountain, I know how much everyone love that). I'd really love to get some air time and waiting till Hull turns on or Elk is tolerable again doesn't sound ideal. FYI... I'm on a new glider Sport 2, easy to launch, fly and land, but I have only been on the bunny slope and one tow. Other than that, I haven't flown much lately. Let me know your opinions and maybe I'll see you Sunday morning. Hope to spot you in the air soon, whenever, wherever that may be. Thanks, -Brian Padgett |

Brian,
St Helena is rated as a H4 site, or H3 with good mountain flying experience. The new launch is good, but it's still a long way out to the LZ, and you can't use an engine. Leo |

Thanks Leo. I didn't want to motor off of St. Helena, which is why I was asking about launch difficulty, etc. It has been a while since I have flown, so
I'll hold off flying from St. Helena until I have more time on this glider. Making the LZ in the sport 2 shouldn't be a problem unless I screw up and
get too low before aborting. I'll put some hours on this thing just to be sure I'm solid.
Kurt, check your email, the number should be there now. If we are going fly, we should go early. It is going to be one HOT day and could make for a long run if the air starts getting thin. I'm trying to hunt down my radio charger, so hopefully all is good by tomorrow AM. Who is the SW secretary? I will mail them a membership check with my current Ph. number. Making the meeting is currently not possible since I still work in the southbay and am gone most of the week. Thanks, -Brian |
