Ron Gleason sent me a link to a website where I found a new tool for Google Earth. This application lets you fly the course recorded in an .IGC file. This makes revisiting a flight in GE much the same as in SeeYou. The major advantage of SeeYou is the ability to re-fly a course. The advantage of GE is its much-better scenery. This "IGC replay" utility isn't as complete as SeeYou. For example, it can't display more than one flight at a time, but it's free, and its fun!
Here's the website:
ywtw.de/igcsim.html
Step 1: Download and install the program file by clicking on "IGC Google Earth Flight Replay".
Step 2:
Once you've installed it, then fire up GE and display the tracklog of Ron's wave flight in Utah. Just click on this link and it'll download and display the flight:
Ron's flight track in Google Earth.
Step 3:
Then, download this .igc file of the flight (from Andy Long's website) and save it on your hard drive somewhere.
> Right click on THIS LINK, and choose "save target as".
Step 4:
Start the IGC replay pgm, and open the .IGC file you just saved. Click File, then Open IGC file.
Step 5: in the IGC replay pgm, click the Start button to replay the flight. Note: IGC-replay doesn't show the flight track; it just shows you in the air, moving along the track. With the path already visible in GE (the .kmz file you loaded), you'll see right where you are in the flight.
You can do this with all your recorded flights. If you have trouble, give me a call and I'll help you get it right.
