May 22, 2008 Sonoma Wings monthly meeting minutes: Attendees: Ernie C., Donna M., Charley W.,Gregg H., Greg S. Ernie called the meeting to order at 7:30 and announced the agenda; Presentation by Lisa Tate and Paul Montville, Mt. St Helena Fly in , St. Jhn Fly in Memorial Day weekend King Mountain, and then a raffle.


Sonoma Wings was pleased to be presented with the USGPA Strategic Plan by USHPA President Lisa Tate and USHPA Executive Director Paul Montville. Power point and verbal presentations by both where made to outline the work and direction that USHPA is taking. Presented information was the result of survey numbers and the descision of the board of directors on where the organization is headed to promote the growth of Hang Gliding/ Paragliding, currently and in the future. Six factors to success, improving organizational function with the mentoring program headed by WOR Pres. Wayne Michelson,Chapter supported headed by our own Ernie Camacho, and Site preservation headed by Jon James were introduced. Non Profit best practices, Organizational efficiency, financial oversight, communications with membership and external marketing where presented. Efforts to increase the numbers of instructors and retain instructors was talked about. Work with the National Parks System to re-establish access was presented. Pilot attrition rates and the goal to double the membership of USHPA in 10 years was introduced and discussed. The discussion about the publics impression of Paragliding and HangGliding was thrown around. The question; what event or image made you become a pilot? was talked about. Survey numbers where presented. The concept of corperate sponsorship/partners was introduced. A question and answer period took place. The idea of an annual convention was broached. Mt. St. Helena Fly in was talked about and we broke even between income and expenditures. Future scoring and policy was briefly introduced.


The Mt. St. John Fly In needs individuals to submitt their ideas for the T-shirt design as soon as possible. Leo Jones needs to get your ideas about the shirt design ASAP.


A raffle for Sonoma wings shirts, hat and pilot needs ride signs was held.


The next meeting is scheduled for June 26th at the same location and time in Santa Rosa.
