Here is the latest from the RVHPA on the work being done on the LZ.
I have a few pictures of the work and tried to put one in this message but my sloooow dial up won't let me.

Michael Zanger provides a progress report re: Whaleback. He's doing great work, under budget so far. I think this will be a great improvement for both paras and hangs.

Money Well spent.

From Michael:

It was a productive time at Whaleback today. Contractor Glen Lachenmyer did an excellent job in grading and smoothing the landing zone. He moved all the previous brush and root piles off the northern corner of the LZ. Then, ripped and raked the area, moved xx more tons of brush, and finished by smoothing it all. The prepared area extends to the far north end of the brush-cleared area, and about 50 yards past the southern margin (toward the launch) of the previous LZ - up to where the ground begins to slope uphill at the big rock island and solitary tree. There is still a large brush-cleared area south of here good for approaches, and very suitable for landings. The width of the prepared area is the entire extent of the brush-cleared area. All in all, it's maybe 2 ½ acres? For paras, it will be huge, and for hangies, they will be very, very happy. Wes Wilson and his wife came out for a while to help move rocks. Personally, I have never moved so many rocks in one day. I have calls in to the two involved USFS Rec Officers to schedule the native grass seeding. An hour after the work was done, the first drops began to fall.
